NSW MAN charged after 1$ million cash found in car

Police have charged a man with alleged money laundering after they found $1 million in cash in the boot of his car in NSW’s Southern Highlands.
Detectives from the Organised Crime Squad’s Money Laundering Unit were conducting inquiries into a possible ‘cash run’ between Sydney and Melbourne when they stopped a vehicle on Saturday, November 10, travelling northbound on the Hume Highway at Sutton Forest .
After conducting a roadside drug test, the 47-year-old male driver of the vehicle returned a positive reading for methylamphetamine.
Following the result of the drug test, officers searched the car and located a sports bag containing $1 million in cash.
The 47-year-old driver and a 38-year-old passenger were arrested and taken to Moss Vale Police Station.
The vehicle was towed away and searched, where detectives allegedly found multiple mobile phones and methylamphetamine.
The 38-year-old passenger, a man from Surry Hills in Sydney, was charged with recklessly dealing in the proceeds of crime and possessing a prohibited drug.
He was refused bail and will appear at Goulburn Local Court today .
The driver, a man from St Ives in Sydney, had his licence suspended with further charges waiting on the results of a secondary drug test.
He is due to appear at Goulburn Local court on Tuesday January 15, 2019.
