(WAM) - Ambassador Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, Permanent Representative of the United Arab
Emirates to the United Nations, presented the UAE contribution of US $ 5 million to the core budget of the United Nations Women's Fund in a meeting with Ms. Fumzeley Malambo-Ngcuka, Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of the United Nations United Nations Headquarters in New York.

Such a financial contribution would help strengthen the United Nations mandate for women to advance global progress on gender equality and the empowerment of women and support the rapid implementation of the 2030 Sustainable Development Plan.

"We are pleased to have made our contribution in supporting the UN Women's Vision for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women around the world," said Ambassador Lana Nusseibeh.

"We are proud to support UN-Women's crucial efforts to defend women and girls, because investing in women is part of our national strategy and foreign policy and is the cornerstone for a more stable, tolerant and prosperous world order."

"The United Nations Women's Fund (UNIFEM) appreciates the ongoing partnership with the UAE, where its generous support to the Commission affirms its unwavering commitment to gender equality and the empowerment of women as a reality for women and girls around the world," said Fumzili Mambo-Ngcuka, Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director. These resources are the foundation of our programs, helping us to expand the Commission's progress and fund emerging or underfunded priorities in line with the 2030 Sustainable Development Plan and its vision of achieving a world of gender equality. "
